When Amazon is deducting this fee from your account, it deducts the greater of the two: the referral fee percentage or the minimum referral fee per item. If the minimum referral fee is greater than the referral fee percentage, that's what will be deducted.
When Does Amazon Charge You?

Instead, the referral fees are taken out of your Amazon account once you've made the sale. Therefore, to get the net profit you want, ensure that you incorporate this referral fee into your item price.
Although the Amazon referral fee is a standard percentage of your selling price and is not determined by the size or weight of your product, other Amazon FBA fees are. And we'll look at those in a minute.
What Are Some Factors that Determine Amazon FBA Fees?
Three factors determine how much you pay for the Amazon FBA service. These include:
- The weight of your product (volumetric weight)
- The size of your product
- Channels you'll use to sell your product (Amazon or external sites)
Based on the factors of weight and size, we get two categories that your products may fall under. These include standard size and oversize.
Standard Size
Products that fall under this category weigh less than 20 pounds and have dimensions less than 18” x 14” x 8” when fully packed.
Oversize
Products in this category exceed the above-stated weight and dimensions. Therefore, if your product weighs more than 20 pounds and measures more than 18 inches on its longer side, you'll know that it falls under this category.
These factors are carefully used to determine how much you'll pay within these two categories of prices. These are the Amazon Fulfillment fees and the Monthly Storage Fee.
2. Amazon Fulfillment Fees
Amazon Fulfillment fees are payments that sellers pay to have their orders fulfilled. But, what does fulfillment mean?

These storage fees are often charged between the 7th and 15th day of the month that follows the month for which the fee is applicable. For example, your storage fees for the month of January will be charged between the 7th and 15th days of February.
You'll find that when it comes to storage, the cost for standard-size products is more than for oversize products. Why? Because standard-size products use complex shelving and bins that can be costly.
Nonetheless, the storage fee often varies depending on the product size tier and the time of the year.
For example, the storage fee from January - September is $0.99 per cubic foot for standard-size products and $0.78 per cubic foot for oversize products.
For October - December, the fee is 3.63 per cubic foot for standard-size products and $2.43 per cubic foot for oversize products.
Although the rates for standard-size products are higher than those of oversize products, you'll find that you're spending less for standard-size products because of the volume.
Something else you should know when it comes to storage fees is the long-term storage fee.
Amazon FBA Long Term Storage Fee
If your inventory remains in the Amazon fulfillment center for more than 365 days, you'll need to be a monthly long-term storage fee (LTSF). This is often $6.90 per cubic foot or $0.15 per unit, whichever is higher.
Amazon calculates this fee on the 15th day of each month.

Just like most referral fees, this fee will be deducted from the proceeds of your sale. Therefore, you won't worry about paying in advance.
4. High-Volume Listing Fee
You don't have to worry about these fees unless you have more than 100,000 products listed. Nonetheless, we want you to be prepared if you upscale and have thousands of ASINs.
This fee is often a flat fee of $0.005 per eligible ASIN. You'll pay for this listing fee at the same time as you're paying your monthly storage fee. If there's no money in your Amazon account balance for it to be deducted, this fee will be deducted from your credit card.
5. Refund Administration Fees
These refund administration fees are charged when a customer requests a refund for your product after you've already been paid for the item price. When Amazon successfully issues a refund to the customer, you'll then be charged the fee, which is either $5.00 or 20% of the refunded charge, whichever is lower.
